Carp fishing in Canada, namely along the St. Lawrence River, will fulfil your fishing dreams. The carp are numerous and the swims are easily accessible by land: along the roadway and in our peaceful scenic parks.

Located in Long Sault, our area is considered a nursery for carp by the Ministry of Natural Resources. In 1958 the government constructed a large dam to harness the mighty St. Lawrence River for hydro-electric power. As a result, a large calm-water reservoir was created with a habitat that is referred to as a "carp fishing mecca". Designated as a sport fishing and tourist area, you will discover some of the best carp fishing in the world.

The Carp in the Long Sault area behave like any other carp. They follow the wind, they look for areas with high levels of oxygen and they go where we put in loads of food!

We recommend a hire car to get the most out of your holiday. A car between 2 or 3 or a "people mover" between 4 or more is not expensive and will enable you to enjoy your holiday to the full. Fish with the wind in your face or in or on the edge of moving water, feed plenty of bait and you will find fish.
Finding your own fish is a source of great enjoyment for many anglers but don't worry too much, we will help you, and keep many areas well baited and if things get really tough I will reluctantly show you my own secret places !!

The Carp at Long Sault are getting bigger and bigger as more bait is going in the bigger fish are moving into the more accessible areas. Five years ago a 40lb fish was a bit special now they are common. Fifty's are now coming out more regularly and we hear the usual rumours about huge fish (some of which are shot with bow and arrow)

On an average day you can expect to catch between 10-20 fish with an average weight of around 25 lb. Few promises can be made with fishing but your chances of a fish (or many fish) over 30lb are very high. One promise however can be made. The St Lawrence Carp are special. Look at the photos, these are long lean athletes not fat bellied lumps. The power of a St Lawrence Carp is incredible and their first runs unstoppable. I have broken 80 lb braid trying to stop an average fish from reaching a snag. This is Carp fishing -- But not as you know it.

Now booking 2009!

2008, apart from one dodgy week in mid May was a fantastic success. I have around 200 fish reports to go through and will shortly be publishing the stats on the forum. But 2008 is over and 2009 is still to come.

I am writing this on the 1st November and already some of the key weeks for 2009 are almost full. So get in quick if you want to book mid May to end June.

We take fisherman from first week of May. Most years we are catching fish from mid April but I am reluctant to take bookings then because if we get a late thaw fishing could be uncertain. By May we are safe.

I have always said the best fishing at Long Sault is 15th May to 15th June. And of course this is the time when my regulars book. This year I have exceptionally high bookings so please give me your dates early. I will email my regulars this week but would hate to disappoint anyone.

Last year Colin and I were hammering the fish in April and then a cold spell hit and we had a tough early May. This same cold spell kicked the season back two weeks and the end of June was fantastic. So as with all fishing holidays the week selection is always a bit of a lottery. With us at least you always catch. A good week is over 100 fish anything under 50 fish is a poor week. No one goes home without a number of plus 20 lb fish and very few without a 30.

I had planned to put up prices for 2009 due to the exchange rate with the Canadian dollar (I am now getting 20% less than I used to) but as bookings are already good I will again hold 2008 prices.

Last year the bookings in July and August were very poor. I think the main reason for this is that air fares go up during this month. The fishing is still good in these months, so I am going to offer reduced prices for August and September. Due to the school holidays this will be a perfect time to bring the family over. (if the website is not updated just email me for prices)

So a big thank you to last years customers and welcome to 2009’s both old and new alike.
