About us
Carp fishing in Canada is rightly famous for big, wild, hard fighting common carp. But even amongst Canadian carp one area reigns supreme - The mighty St-Lawrence River. The Canadian Carp Club is situated right across from the LongSault Parkway, an area of 12 islands linked by road at the centre of a huge flood plain caused by the introduction of the Power Dam in 1958.
The St Lawrence is stacked out with big carp but most of it is a wide and wild river flowing hard and deep, making it difficult to fish. Long Sault is different. The flood plain has created dozens of large still water bays with dept varying from 18 inches to 40 feet, all linked by creeks and rivers. The fish spend their lives in the deep, fast main channels but move into the bays to feed and breed, giving the best of all worlds. Incredibly hard fighting river fish concentrated into areas where we can get at them and create feeding areas to hold them.
From one session to the next you can enjoy different carp fishing experience from fishing fast waters river swims to beautiful picturesque bays. Swims where 6 ounces almost float to calm water you can float fish in. The area to fish is immense, there are 100's of places to fish.
My love affair with Long Sault started in 1999 when my business partner and carp addict Bob Sloan finally tempted me to join him on his annual pilgrimage. Prior to that i had always said "Why would I want to go halfway around the world when there are carp on my doorstep." His answer was always "These fish are different" How right he was!!!... There are just no words to explain how these fish fight and 6 years later, we bought the business.
I often say that Long Sault has the best carp fishing in the world and i know
that it's a very bold claim. So let me explain why.
There are places that have bigger fish and if you want to catch a 60 plus this is not the place, they are here and you will almost certainly see them but I cannot say the chances of catching them are high. There is simply too many carp to target specific fish. Fishing with the Canadian Carp Club is about the BEST carp fishing. This means loads of action, typically 15 to 30 runs per day. The average size will be mid 20's. There are very few small fish and almost every angler will catch some or a lot of 30's up to low 40's and NO ONE has ever blanked on a holiday with us.
Take a look at the photos on this site. The best way Ii can describe our carp is: you can take two 18 stone men, one is 5 ft 6 and loves his pies, beer and Big Macs, the other is 6 ft 5 and is a professional rugby player. They both weight the same but who is going to put up more of a fight? Even a fifty out here has hardly any gut, they just get longer and thicker across the shoulders. Look at the fins, these fish have tails like mermaids and are built to fight the St Lawrence currents. The fish are feeding on naturals and not getting blown up on mountains of boilies. I love to watch the first timers here, we always sit with then until they bank their first carp and when they set the hook, the reaction is always the same. They either go deathly quiet or start giggling like kids as 60 yards of line disappears on the first run. Even the best of anglers will loose fish and each year customers come back with stories of being spooled by fish they just cannot stop.
There are no 24 hours barren sessions sitting behind three rods in a bivvy. You can fish 24 hour if you wish but normally, dawn to dusk is enough. At the end of a great day, you go back to an air conditioned motel that is spotlessly clean and well equipped for a quick shower and a much needed beer in Grumpies ( our unofficial club house 400 yds down the road ) or to one of the many fantastic and cheap restaurants nearby.
You are fishing over pre baited areas and the guides and I are visiting you constantly to offer advice or move you if spot is slow. At the motel, we have a fully stocked carp shop and have tackle hire service if you want it. The better anglers always catch more but EVERYBODY catches. If you are inexperienced or even if you have never held a carp rod, we will spend time with you and get you catching. Many guys bring their wives and families as there are lots of other attractions nearby but even the wives end up fishing and loving it 9 times out of 10.
That's why I say it is the best carp fishing in the world. We have fun, we catch lots of truly beautiful fish while surrounded by beautiful countryside, with chipmunks, deer, beavers, raccoons etc. ( don't worry we do not have bears or poisonous snakes) After a hard fishing we relax, swap war stories and get ready for the next day.
The Canadian Carp Club offers a "proper" fishing holiday. The proof being almost nobody comes only once. 80% of our business is repeat customers.
But you don't have to take my words for it! There are a few links below which may also be of interest.
